About GymStarterGuide

Last updated October 27, 2026

GymStarterGuide is a free website for people who are new to the gym and new to eating with a plan. Walking into a gym for the first time can feel like walking into a room where everyone else already knows the rules. We want to take that feeling away with clear, calm, honest explanations.

What you will find here

  • Workout guides. Sample weekly plans, the main lifts explained step by step, warm-ups, sets and reps, and gym etiquette. Many of them include small animated drawings so you can see how a movement looks.
  • Nutrition guides. Daily sugar limits, calories, protein, water and how to read a food label. Each number comes from a health organisation, and we link to the page it came from.
  • A calorie and macro calculator. It estimates your daily calories, a starting split of protein, fat and carbohydrate, and your daily limit for free sugars. It runs entirely in your browser.

Who writes this site

GymStarterGuide is an independent project, written by a small editorial team. We are not doctors, registered dietitians or certified personal trainers, and we do not pretend to be. That is why we keep to widely accepted beginner advice, and why we send you to official sources and to professionals for anything personal.

We use AI tools to help research, draft and check our articles. Every article is reviewed by a person before it is published, and the figures that matter, such as sugar limits and activity guidelines, are checked against the original source pages that we list at the bottom of each article.

How we decide what to publish

  • We cite our sources. Health numbers come from organisations such as the World Health Organization, the NHS, the American Heart Association, the CDC and the FDA, or from published research. If we could not confirm a number, we leave it out.
  • No miracle claims. We do not promise fast results, we do not show before and after photos, and we do not tell you that a food or an exercise will fix a health problem.
  • No supplements, no extreme diets. We do not promote supplements, detoxes, fasting challenges or very low calorie plans.
  • Safety first. Our guides tell you when to stop, when to ask a professional, and who should not use a tool.
  • We keep things current. Each page shows the date it was last updated. When official guidance changes, we change the page.

How the site is funded

GymStarterGuide is free to read. The site is supported by advertising served by Google AdSense. Ads do not influence what we write, and we do not accept payment to review or recommend a product. If we ever add affiliate links or sponsored content, we will label them clearly. You can read how advertising works in our privacy policy and cookie policy.

A note before you start

Everything here is general information for healthy adults. It is not medical advice, and it does not replace a conversation with your doctor, a registered dietitian or a qualified coach. Please read our disclaimer and contact us if you have a question.
